Our Family History — The Boat Shop

A LAKE WALLENPAUPACK STORY

Built on the lake. Carried by family.

The names, boats, and technology have changed over the decades. The goal has not: take care of people, do the work correctly, and help families enjoy more time on the water.

Thanks for letting our family serve yours.

MORE THAN A BUSINESS

A marina shaped by generations.

The roots of The Boat Shop were established in 1958, when the Bonisese family of Bangor, Pennsylvania, decided to open Quality Marine on Lake Wallenpaupack. The business opened in 1960 as Wallenpaupack Marina and quickly became part of the lake community.

Roy Finney Sr. joined the staff in 1962 and never looked back. Over the years, the marina grew, boating changed, and the Finney family became closely tied to the business and the customers it served.

“The boats changed. The tools changed. Taking care of the customer never did.”

OUR DOCKSIDE TIMELINE

A few important stops along the way.

From wooden hulls to modern surf boats and WaveRunners, every era brought something new to learn—and another generation of boaters to serve.

TODAY

Still growing on the same lake

The Boat Shop now supports customers through sales, service, storage, moorage, rentals, lessons, parts, and seasonal boating needs.

NOW

THEN

Wooden hulls and hands-on fixes.

Early marina work looked very different. Wooden boats needed caulking and swelling, systems were simpler, and much of the work relied on practical knowledge passed from one person to the next.

NOW

Modern boats. Same attention to detail.

Today’s boats use advanced engines, electronics, surf systems, and specialized equipment. The work has evolved, but the expectation to be thorough and stand behind it remains the same.

WHAT HAS NOT CHANGED

The values behind the name.

01

Take care of people

Boating should create good memories. Our role is to make the process clearer, safer, and easier for the families we serve.

02

Do the details well

Small details matter—whether we are preparing a new boat, servicing an engine, launching a storage unit, or helping a first-time renter.

03

Keep learning

Boats and systems continue to change. We keep building our knowledge so the service behind the dock keeps moving forward too.
